God Counts Your Hairs

I matter to God.

God Loves Me  ·  Luke 12:7; Matthew 10:29–31

I matter to God.

Have you ever tried to count something that is very hard to count? Like grains of sand, or blades of grass? Today we hear about something even harder to count. And God knows the exact number.

Jesus is talking to His friends and He says something that makes them stop and smile.

'God knows how many hairs are on your head,' Jesus says.

Your head!

Can you pat your hair? How many hairs do you think are up there?

Lots and lots and lots!

Grown-ups have about a hundred thousand hairs on their heads. That number changes a little every day.

And God knows the exact number. Not because He has to. Because He wants to. Because you matter that much to Him.

Jesus also says: 'Are not five sparrows sold for just a couple of pennies? And yet God knows about every single sparrow that falls to the ground.'

A tiny sparrow. The smallest, most ordinary little bird. God notices every one.

Then Jesus says the part that matters most:

'You are worth so much more than sparrows.'

Can you put your hands on your cheeks? That face, that person, matters so much to God.

You are not ordinary to Him. You are precious.

Prayer

Let's pray. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
Thank you that I matter to you.
Thank you that you know
every hair on my head.
We love you!
Amen.
