I Can Be Still

Being still with God is good.

God Loves Me  ยท  Psalm 46:10; Psalm 131:2

Being still with God is good.

We go, go, go so much of the day! Running and playing and talking and doing. But today we hear about something different. And it might be harder than it sounds.

God said this in the Psalms: 'Be still, and know that I am God.'

Be still. Just two words. Sometimes very hard!

Being still means: quiet your body. Quiet your thoughts. Let God be God.

David wrote in another psalm: 'I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother.'

Can you imagine a little baby settled in their mother's arms? Not crying, not asking for anything. Just resting. Calm and content and safe. That's what David says his soul is like when he is with God.

Being still with God isn't doing nothing. It's actually one of the most important things.

In the stillness, you hear things you miss when you're rushing.

Can you be completely still for ten whole seconds? Let's try. Shhh. Still. Ten seconds.

...

Good! Did you notice anything in the quiet?

That quiet space is where you can find God.

Prayer

Let's pray, quietly this time. Repeat after me in a soft voice:
Dear God,
I am still right now.
Help me to know
that you are God.
We love you.
Amen.
