The Very First Day

God Made the World  ·  Genesis 1:1–5

God made everything.

Have you ever walked into a dark room? It's very dark and very quiet. That's how everything was before God began. Today we hear the very first story in the whole Bible.

In the beginning, there is nothing. No light. No sound. No color. Nothing at all. But God is there.

And God speaks.

'Let there be light!' God says.

Light comes. Warm, golden, beautiful light fills everything!

God looks at the light. He loves it. 'This is good,' He says.

Then God makes the darkness too. He calls it night. He calls the light day.

Can you stretch your arms up wide? That's how big the light was. It filled everything God could see.

This is the very first day. Already God is making something wonderful.

The story is just beginning, friends. And it is so, so good.

Prayer

Let's talk to God right now. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
Thank you for making everything.
Thank you for light
and for the very first day.
We love you!
Amen.
