Fish and Birds

God made creatures big and small.

God Made the World  ·  Genesis 1:20–23

God made creatures big and small.

Have you ever seen a bird flying in the sky? Or a fish swimming in water? Today God fills the ocean and the sky with the very first creatures!

The ocean is ready. The sky is ready. But they are both very empty.

Then God speaks.

'Let the water fill up with living creatures!' He says.

Fish appear!

Little fish and big fish. Shiny silver fish and bright orange fish. Fish that swim fast and fish that swim slowly. Great big sea creatures too. Enormous and graceful, swooping through the deep water!

Can you wiggle your hands like a fish swimming? That's right!

'Let the sky fill with birds!' God says.

Birds appear!

Birds with red wings and birds with blue wings. Birds that sing and birds that squawk. Eagles soaring up high and tiny little sparrows hopping on branches.

God looks at all the fish and all the birds. 'This is good,' He says.

He blesses them: 'Fill the ocean! Fill the sky!'

From that day on, fish are swimming and birds are singing everywhere.

Prayer

Let's pray. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
Thank you for fish and birds.
Thank you for swimming
and flying and singing.
We love you!
Amen.
