Butterflies

God Made the World  ·  Psalm 104:24–25

God made so many wonderful things.

Have you ever seen a butterfly land somewhere? So still and so beautiful for just a second. Then gone! Today we think about how many amazing things God made. A butterfly is one of the most wonderful.

The Bible says this: 'How many things you have made, Lord! You made them all so wisely. The earth is full of the things you made.' That's Psalm 104.

Think about that for a moment.

God made snowflakes. Every single snowflake is different from every other one.

God made fingerprints. No two people in all of history have had the same fingerprints.

And butterflies. There are more than twenty thousand different kinds of butterflies in the world. Twenty thousand!

Each one with wings like stained glass. Patterns of orange, black, blue, white, yellow. Some with spots, some with stripes, some that look like eyes.

Can you open and close your hands like butterfly wings? Flutter, flutter, flutter!

Why did God make so many different kinds? Maybe because beauty makes God happy. Maybe because variety is a gift. Maybe because God just loves making wonderful things.

The world is so full of good things. And every one of them came from God.

Prayer

Let's pray. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
You made so many things.
Thank you for butterflies
and all the beautiful things.
We love you!
Amen.
