God Made Colors

God Made the World  ·  Genesis 9:13–16; Revelation 4:3

God made the rainbow as a promise.

What's your favorite color? Did you know that every color you can see came from God? Today we hear about a time when God painted a giant promise right across the sky.

Noah and his family have been on the big boat for a long, long time.

Finally, the water goes down. The boat comes to rest on the ground. They open the door. They step outside.

Fresh air! Sunlight! Solid ground under their feet!

Noah builds an altar and thanks God.

Then God speaks.

'Noah,' God says, 'I am making you a promise. I will never flood the whole earth again. And here is the sign of my promise.'

Noah looks up.

There, stretching from one side of the sky to the other, is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

A rainbow.

Red and orange and yellow and green and blue and purple. All of them, arching across the sky in a great wide curve!

Can you trace a rainbow shape with your finger? Big arch. There it is!

God gave the rainbow as a sign of His promise. He would never again destroy all the earth by a flood.

The Bible says God looked at the rainbow and remembered His promise.

Every rainbow since that day is God's sign that He keeps His word.

Prayer

Let's pray. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
Thank you for the rainbow.
Thank you that you always
keep every promise you make.
We love you!
Amen.
