The Storm Stops
Jesus is stronger than what scares me.
Stories of Jesus · Mark 4:37–41
Jesus is stronger than what scares me.
Is there something that makes you feel scared sometimes? Loud thunder? The dark? Today we hear a story about a really, really scary storm. And how Jesus handled it.
Jesus and His disciples get into a boat. The sea is calm. The sun is warm.
Jesus is tired. He lies down in the back of the boat and falls asleep.
But while He sleeps, the wind picks up.
Then the clouds roll in.
Then waves. Bigger and bigger!
The disciples are holding on with both hands! The boat rocks and pitches! Water splashes over the sides!
'We're going to sink!' they cry.
Jesus is still asleep.
They shake Him awake. 'Jesus! Don't you care? We're in danger!'
Jesus stands up in the rocking boat. He looks at the wind. He looks at the waves.
And He says, very calmly: 'Quiet. Be still.'
The wind stops. The waves go flat. The sea is perfectly calm.
Can you be very, very still? Like the sea after Jesus spoke.
The disciples whisper to each other: 'Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him!'
Prayer
Let's pray. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
When I'm scared,
help me remember
that Jesus is stronger.
We love you!
Amen.
