The Sun and Moon
God made the light.
God Made the World · Genesis 1:14–19
God made the light.
What wakes you up in the morning sometimes? The light coming through your window! Today God makes the very first sunrise.
On the fourth day, God is ready to hang lights in the sky.
'Let there be lights in the sky!' He says.
First comes the sun. Big and warm and golden, rising up into the blue sky. The whole earth gets warm. The plants turn their faces toward it. The land fills with bright golden light!
Can you put your face up like you're feeling the sun? Warm! Just like that.
Then comes the moon. Soft and silver, shining gently in the night sky. Not as bright as the sun. Just enough light to see by.
And all around the moon, stars! Tiny sparkling lights, too many to count. Scattered across the sky like someone spilled glitter on a dark cloth.
God looks at the sun and the moon and all the stars.
'This is good,' He says.
Every morning when the sun rises, that's God's gift to you. Every night when you see the moon, that's God saying goodnight.
Prayer
Let's pray. Repeat after me:
Dear God,
Thank you for the sunshine.
Thank you for the moon
and all the stars at night.
We love you!
Amen.
